A construction contractor is a builder who either performs the work of building or renovating a building or home or if a general contractor hires subcontractors and oversees them do the work. Construction contractors usually require state licenses A general contractor supplies the tools and purchases materials and coordinates the project. A general contractor's goal is to keep the project on schedule and within budget while coordinating all phases of the building. They make sure all permits are obtained and work meets all required codes. Hiring a general contractor is desirable for larger projects such as a home and sometimes additions or rehabs. The general contractor hires and oversees earth movers, plumbers, concrete workers, trim work finishers, framers, sprinkler installers, heating and air conditioning installers, carpenters, deck builders, roofers, painters, electricians, landscapers, flooring installers, and other specialists.
