Is it legal for me to do whatever I want with my land?

Question: I want to get some chickens to have within my property line so I can have fresh eggs. I told my neighbor about this and he said he’d have me turnd in to the city if I did. Is it legal according to any property rights law for me to do whatever I want with my within my residential real estate?

Response By Matt Placek:  Not necessarily. It depends on the city in which you live. You should go to your local city hall or zoning board and ask them about the zoning bylaws. In most cities, you cannot have farm animals within city limits, but I’m sure there are exceptions with or without a zone permit, so check out your local property law and consult with a local attorney if you have specific questions regarding your case.
