Question:

Question: I added my girl friend to the title, but now want to remove her from it. How do I go about this?

Response by Pratul Lakhotia: Is your girlfriend on the mortgage as well? Did she take part in putting a down payment for the house? Typically if someone is on the deed, they’ll be on the mortgage as well. In that event, you need to refinance the mortgage and have your girlfriend sign the quit claim deed to remove her from title. If there are certain complications, such as her refusing to remove herself from the deed, you may need to contact an attorney at that time.
